I began my journey in Mexico as an English teacher, working in regions increasingly shaped by instability, cartel influence, and the quiet encroachment of violence into everyday life. What outsiders often experience as culture and color exists alongside territories fractured by fear, displacement, and survival-level decision-making. I witnessed classrooms operating in the shadow of conflict, communities adapting to conditions resembling undeclared war zones, and ordinary people navigating extraordinary risk.
Living there taught me how quickly trust dissolves under pressure, how danger becomes normalized, and how survival often depends on silence, awareness, and resilience. It was a firsthand education in how fragile safety truly is... and how easily a life can be pulled into forces far beyond one’s control.
From those streets, I was plunged into a world no one should endure: the isolation and brutality of prison. Concrete walls, constant surveillance, and a system that thrives on silence replaced the open skies and freedom I once knew. Every day was a fight to survive... not just physically, but mentally, against whispers, manipulations, and the invisible chains of fear.
